* Unemployment rates in the metropolitan statistical areas for April were: Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord NC-SC — 11.4 percent, down from 11.6 percent. Two other areas had a higher rate: Burlington — 12.0 percent, up from 11.9 percent. Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton — 14.9 percent, down from 15.4 percent.

* COMBINED STATISTICAL AREAS CIVILIAN LABOR FORCE ESTIMATES: CHARLOTTE-GASTONIA-SALISBURY, NC-SC - 12.1 percent

* The Charlotte/Gastonia/Concord NC/SC Metro experienced the largest net decrease in employment at 52,100

Iredell - 12.6%
Union - 10.1%

* Unemployment insurance benefits: Mecklenburg -$23.7 million Gaston -$8 milliion
