I think what I was trying to say, though not very well, it depends on your system and how it is set up. 1 AC Unit by itself can't set two zones, you have to have an internal dampening system to control the temp. I.E. Block certain areas, open other areas up. So if you are having an issue, you may want to check how it set up and making sure the WHOLE system is set up right. My friend had a problem, because a dampener wasn't closing all the way, thus air was getting through.

Yup, sounds like it's a previous program in the thermostat. Someone like me, who finds 78 cold, probably lived there before you.

We recently had our house zoned and love it - be glad you already have it. We previously would set the heat on the only one downstairs to 70 and it would be 85 to 90 upstairs and freezing (to me) downstairs. That wasn't gonna fly with a new baby in the house, but we couldn't afford two separate units. So we got it zoned.

Now, like others have said, it can be set to two different temperatures upstairs and downstairs and a damper controls it. It is much, much better. It wasn't cheap either, but we used Cool Comfort.

We have a 3 zone multi-zone A/C system. Each floor is a zone and is independently set.

We have the same problem, we have 3 zones and we just moved in almost a month ago in this brand new house. The downstairs temp keeps getting down to 72 even if it's sets on 80. The people who installed it came 2x already and they just giving as looks like we don't know what we are talking about when we told them it' s probably wired wrong. They keep telling us about "dampening " or whatever system . C'mon , the temp is already 72 and it's still blowing cold air. We called them again and again, I think they are avoiding our calls but finally got a call back and they are coming tomorrow to chek it again. For now, we set the downstairs thermostat for the upper floor and vice versa. Annoying!

I have a bryant variable speed furnace. There is a thermostat downstairs and a thermostat upstairs. Why? How does this work with only one unit?
