I love it here but compared to Philly the last thing Charlotte could ever be accused of being is a big time sports town. There ain't much beyond the two races and college basketball.
Well, the panther fans are just as zealous and passionate as the eagle fans were back in Pennsylvania. but Charlotte will have to get a major league baseball franchise before we can try to compete with Philadelphia as a sports town.
Being from Ohio, I never had a pro football team to cheer for...., so I was easily converted to a Panther fan.
Anyways, I would say, considering that we are a fairly small city, new franchise and a city of transplants, the Panthers have an extremely strong fan base. And those people that actually go to the games and root for the Panthers, would tell you, it's a great atmosphere in BOA and on the outside. And it's growing each year. Most negative comments about gameday are from transplants that have never even been to a game.
I often hear people say that Panther fans are bandwagon, or that they leave early when they are losing and so on....whatever. That's the case with almost every team, including traditionally great cities. Probably Pittsburgh and Green Bay are the only two franchises immune to those problems.
A bit of a dis-service to the Carolina Panther fans, who have consistantly averaged 73,000+ fans a game......not bad for a team with no history, a smaller population and a high % of out-of-towners.
Do that many people show up, though? I've never been to a game, but on TV the stadium always looks about half empty.

It's the bright blue seats my friend. It really looks bad on TV. Every empty seat shows up. That's why most stadiums go with a darker seat color.
But, yes, most people show up. Don't forget, it's pro football, not college, the concourses are full of people, even as the game goes on. That's just pro sports.
Never even been to a football game. Going to try and get tickets for the Fins-Panthers game later this year! Hopefully the Fins can get their shet together..GO DOLPHINS AND THE "U"!!!
Probably Pittsburgh and Green Bay are the only two franchises immune to those problems.
I'd agree with you that the fans at the stadium might be a little more diehard than at BOA Stadium, but couldn't you also argue that the Green Bay & Pittsburgh fans who hail from San Diego, Oklahoma or even Charlotte, are the epitome of 'bandwagon' ??
i will certainly miss football sundays here in philly. the streets are empty and everyone in town is planted in front of there tv. argh..glad to hear i wont be the only transplant fan in the area.
Location: Some got six month some got one solid. But me and my buddies all got lifetime here

No way is a Panther fan as zealous as an Eagles fan. There might come a point someday where they're equal but that's decades away (and trust me, I'm no Eagles fan). There aren't many pro sports teams in general that have the level of zealousness that a Philadelphia team has. Those fans have an unparalleled level of notoriety primarily due to their overzealousness (read: acting like complete a$$holes).
If you're a Panthers fan you don't want to be known for that level of zealousness.

Good point regarding the empty seats, too.
I would argue against that. Just because you are from a certain area doesn't mean you automatically have to like the local team. Case in point, my friend from PA is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and has been for years.
A bandwagoner is someone who just likes a team during the period when they are popular. Not just someone who likes a team from a different area. Steelers have always had a lot of die hard fans from around the country.
