Whitewater Rafting (Charlotte, King, Norman: used car, companies, distance)

I have a friend coming from out of town in a couple of weeks. She rows for fun and in national competitions back home. Aside from the National Whitewater Rafting Center in Charlotte, where can I take her in the NC mountains to enjoy some rowing in a natural setting? Thanks.

distance as asheville but yall will be able to check out the new river gorge

If she wants to row, I'd take her to a lake. Maybe Fontana Lake, or Cedarwood, or Watauga... something like that.

If she wants to paddle then Sunny's advice is good.

You may also consider the Ocoee or the Nantahala or the Pigeon. Do your research, difficulty levels vary. The Nantahala in a raft is really only for the VERY timid.

The Nantahala River is very fun and fairly fast. I believe it has class 1 to 3 rapids, which most beginners can handle. Several companies offer trips. I've used Carolina Outfitters twice this year and had a lot of fun!

EDIT: FYI, It's about 3.5 hours from the Lake Norman area.

My husband and sons went on the New River a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. My husband does not have a lot of experience in kayaking or canoeing, just for fun.
