What is the deal with Aldi? Is it a great bargain...or a place to avoid?
My cousin in another state shops there for things like cereal, paper products and canned goods. She said, with teen boys in her home, that it saves her a TON of money.
But, the ones I have seen around Charlotte are in less desirable areas and seem kind of unkept.
The one in Denver is very nice however I do agree there are several in some of the tougher places in Charlotte. They are no-frills, no credit cards, bag your own groceries place that has great prices on food. Most of the food is private label but I've always found it to be high quality. If there was one closer to where I live, I would shop in it all the time.
I would not shop there. Their food is very cheap in every sense of the word. They sometimes have brand name items, but I find it akin to the brand name stuff you find at the dollar store - smaller packages or items near their expiration date.
I go to the store on Old Pineville, close to Tyvola, a good bit. Used to go to the one on Albemarle Road, and the stores at Sunset Road, Monroe Rd., and also Prosperity Church right by Highland Creek are nice stores. Worth driving out of the way!
I like them especially because every time I've gone, the cashiers have been helpful & friendly. I was worried Aldi would have that *yuck* feel that some discount groceries have, but they don't at all, to me.

Aldi brand food, cheap? Not in my experience. Their brand is equal to, or better than, national brands in most cases. Their chocolate - belgian chocolates - surpass most gourmet brands out there. I don't go there to find cheap "name brand" items; Aldi brand is more than good enough! Though my guys do like the inexpensive Pringles! Never close to expiration date, btw. & Aldi brand organic blue corn chips, yum.
Ive never been myself, but, there hours are VERY limited (the latest the Fort Mill one is open is 8 on the weekdays) and I dislike how its SO bare bones (paying for the shopping cart, bags, etc). My girlfriend likes some of their food, but I'd rather stick to Wal-Mart or some of the dollar stores have great buys.

The shopping carts is a quarter that you recieve back when you return the cart.
I never pay for shopping bags usually their card board box tops to stack your items in and the freezer grocery bags is reusable also alot more consideration for the environment by reusing these bags than bunch of toxic walmart bags.
Noticed today they are building an Aldi store right in front of the BlackLion location off Park Road. Interesting spot that will most certainly get a ton of business.

I have shopped at Aldi since ~1994. The ground turkey is Shadybrook Farms. It was sold with that label for years, until the other supermarkets complained because Aldi sold it so much cheaper, so they put an Aldi label on it. The fresh chicken is Tyson. It used to have that label on it.
I'm not too good to shop at a box store. I can save a ton of money at Aldi.
