This conversation is irrelevant IMO.

Parents have choices. Either goto a provider that you are happy with, or stay home and watch the kids yourself.

These businesses can set the rules as they feel.

Make sure you tell your employer to not pay you while your office is closed for the holidays!

I like what most of you have said about about the financial output of daycare centers and to add a little note that, which no one mentioned...Your tuition pays the salaries of those who care for your children. The ratio of teacher to child make it almost impossible to pay director, teachers, aids and other staff members minimal wage salaries. Most center worker don't get paid over $9 or $10 an hour for working with our little ones. Child care workers are one of the lowest paid workers out there!

I never understood how teachers/childcare workers are the lowest paid in the school/center. Principals/directors/even secretaries are paid higher at times. Boggled my mind. I always thought it should be the other way around.

I only worked 9 months per year. I had to continue paying during the months I was off or they would have given my spots away to other people who WOULD pay all 12 months.

It is just part of the deal.

Think about this: If you ran a business and someone said, "I would like to only use half, so I will pay half" compared to someone who came in and said, "I will use 100% and I will pay 100%." Which person would you take?

I am a bit surprised at so many saying it is ridiculous.

I no longer have daycare aged kids, but I did and I had to pay just like everyone else.

I have a daycare provider who is going on vacation, do I still have to pay her if she is not watching my kids?

Do you have a signed contract with your provider? If so, refer to what you agreed to when you enrolled your child.

Not to be rude, but how will we know if your provider will charge or not? As another poster said, check your contract or ask her/him.

First things first, it is very important that you find someone that you and the baby like and trust. If her rates are competitive and you can afford her, you are fortunate. It’s probably not wise to get angry with the person entrusted with your baby. Arguing, especially over money or a day off is fruitless. She might perceive it as criticism and you could run the risk of retaliation, even on a sub-conscience level.

Yes, child care providers are entitled to “PAID” days off just as you are with your employer. They are called employee benefits. It’s a show of appreciation. If you are unable to afford her rates that's one thing. To resent her is childish! She is caring for your most precious, isn't she worth a few perks?
