I just re-read the original post and am wondering if the OP should have asked instead about where the most people from Buffalo hang out (such as sports bars). I would think it would be fun to be able to go cheer on your old team during games if you can get together with many people from your old stomping grounds. Just a thought. I'm not a big sports watcher myself, so I have not really bothered to find where the Chicago Bears fans are or the Chicago Cubs fans are (although I suspect someone on this board knows the answer to this!).

Some of you must not get out much. LOL. Or travel out of the country...People who are from different states are not all that different from each other really...
Everyone wants a nice place to live that is within their means, good schools, friendly people around, some good food, etc.
I find these convos kinda weird...
I wasn't "defending" anything, I just said he made a good point - most transplants coming here from the northeast do flock to the brand new subdivisions, most of which are vinyl sided.
While there is nothing wrong with vinyl siding at all (a few of my homes have been vinyl sided!) I prefer the older homes with more character in our established neighborhoods.
I luv the look of older homes with character and the mature landscaping, but it seems older homes have so many problems with them. Is that true overall or do most people just not maintain their homes very well?
It just seems the list is endless of things to fix in old homes (unless someone kept it in top notch condition and updated the major things (like roof/windows/hvac/electrical etc) but it's so hard to find something like that. I'm not even talking about dated kitchens or baths, I can deal w/ stuff like that. But so many of these older homes have just been very poorly maintained. With new or newer homes you don't have the endless list of repairs or updating of major systems.
And you have rats that will come up through those old sewers and into your bathroom through the toilet. Imagine having to deal with that. It was a problem that has been a problem in some of the older neighborhoods that is unmentionable in polite company.

Well, define "older". I would not want a 75 year old home necessarily - too much maintenance there - but a 30-35 year old home? That's no big deal to maintain and the yards are so much larger and nicer with big trees in most cases

God, the stuff you come up with, lol.
PLEASE, dm me and tell me WHERE in the Charlotte area you have EVER really heard of this happening? It sounds like something I've only heard out of NYC.

Yep. It was also a big problem for a while in Dilworth and the older parts of Myers Park where the pipes are larger diameter and broken due to age where the rats could get in. It's easy enough to google on the internet so I won't bother to do so for those who don't believe it.
You do have to admit, it's more interesting than arguing over the merits of vinyl siding.
