We recently visited Ballantyne and liked the neighborhood, but because of job location (University area), we would prefer something on the north side of Charlotte. What would you say is the most similar area to Ballantyne on the north side of Charlotte?

There really isn't anything like Ballantyne anywhere else in the metro area. If you like Ballantyne Country Club (the subdivision), then you might like The Peninsula in Cornelius. Both subdivisions were built by Crescent Resources and are golf course communities. Birkdale Village in Huntersville is nice (for shopping, dining, and entertainment) and is probably 5-10 minutes from The Peninsula.

Birkdale or maybe Skybrook . - Highland Creek not quite the same caliber, but a nice community

The Peninsula (several cuts above Ballantyne) and Birkdale are not convenient to the University Area, not even close. It's probably easier to go from Ballantyne to UC than from Lake Norman to UC. There just isn't a good way to get there.

The OP probably wants to be looking around places like Kings Crossing.

You can take 77 to Harris Boulevard. Traffic isn't THAT bad, especially when the OP is coming from the Atlanta metro area. I think people tend to exaggerate about the traffic here. Once 485 is completed, it will be a very easy commute.

If you're from Charlotte, I'm sure it is. If you have lived in a larger metro area with more traffic, it's really not. The OP is from Atlanta. Traffic here is a joke compared to there. Like I said before, people exaggerate about the traffic here.

We live in Highland Creek and really do love it. Depending on your pricepoint, there are lots of other neighborhoods to consider as well. As the other posters have said, there is Skybrook, but also Christenbury. It's actually Cabarrus County, as is half of Highland Creek and Skybrook. You may also be interested in some of the neighborhoods in Harrisburg- I am not familiar enough with the town to give any recommendations, but I am sure someone here can chime in!

Good Luck to you in you search!
