Are there any veterans or current military personnel here? I am deeply considering a move to the Charlotte area but am contemplating going back to school for my masters also. Here in Wisconsin I can go back to school and have it completely paid for by the military as long as I attend a State school or University. Can anyone tell me if they have this kind of benefit there for an armed forces member? Thanks in advance.

I'm a veteran. Are you referring to the Montgomery GI Bill? Or something different?

I am contemplating graduate school and have some time left before my benefits run out however, the GI Bill is not going to cover my tuition in its entirety. It will provide a monthly stipdend for a limited time.

Now that I think about it, I believe there were tuition waivers in New Jersey but that was while I was an active guard member. I'm not sure that benefit was available for vets.

Your best bet is to contact the school that interests you and speak to someone in their Veterans Service Office. They would be able to familiarize you with any benefits you may qualify for. Best to get it from the horse's mouth. KWIM?

Good luck!

SL

I am not referring to the GI Bill. I used up that many years ago. What I am talking about is full tuition coverage by the military. I am currently still a resrvist. I am not sure if WI is the only state offering it to service members or not. I just thought I would ask in case it is part of benefits there.

Knowing this will really have an impact on when I relocate now.

No free ride but you may be eligible for reduced tuition. North Carolina is generous with the military.

OK. Got it. A tuition waiver, usually up to 15 credits at a State school. I took advantage of it a few years back. I have no clue if it applied to reservists, as I was a guard member. This was a benefit offered by the State.

Are you planning on transferring to an NC unit? If so, contact a recruiter in the unit you hope to join to get a complete explanation of whatever benefits might be available to you.

Note that in the link provided by Linus, you must be a member of an NC unit, which is to be expected.

If interested, I am familiar with a few accredited online undergraduate and graduate programs that significantly discount tuition for veterans.

Good luck!
