I am relocating from Maryland to the Mallard Creek area and am looking for an apartment -- no more than $715 a month. I have inquired about Worthington Apartments and The Oaks, but I've gotten mixed reviews on both. Does anyone have comments on either or other suggestions for that area? I keep reading about car break ins in the area. Thanks!

There are a lot up there due to UNC Charlotte, but apartments in that area are magnets for crime as are most apartments in Charlotte. Make sure to check Apartment Ratings - Apartments for Rent with Ratings and Reviews from Actual Renters first.

You'll want to put your children in a private school. Average cost per child is about $350 month. More one on one. Char. Meck. Schools (CMS) are the worst in the state! About 45 kids per class, and no funds for schools or teachers. I've been here for 4 years (from Annapolis) and live in Charlotte, near the speedway. I wouldn't trade it for the world! You can buy!! a 2 bdr, 2 bath condo down here in the University area for about $49K, and your mortgage would be about $350 a month! You can rent a home for anywhere between $750-1400 a month, which is what the apartments in the Mallard Creek area charge. E-mail me if you need more info on comparisons. I'd love to help a fellow Bowie Bay Sox fan! Bfritz2@hotmail.com

I wish you'd take a closer look at one of my listings on Panthersville Dr. Its off Prosperity Church Rd and the price point would bring your house payment to a range within your rent criteria!! :-)

Ok, maybe I missed it, but I don't think the OP even mentioned kids. And while there is an overcrowding problem, I would not classify these schools as terrible. It's so overcrowded because a billion people, like yourselves, are moving here and we have to struggle to keep up with the explosion in growth. It is a large system that is struggling with the area changes (and I'll admit that our school board has been largely ineffective in this department), but I don't think CMS is the worst in the state....unless someone has stats they can show me to prove otherwise.

And I don't know what universe charges $350/month for private school. That's how much it was when I went to private school in 1989. My friend pays almost $16,000/year in S. Charlotte.

You're right kmway. I do not have kids and am actually coming down to teach in the school system. I've almost exhausted my apartment search and am now looking into townhouse rentals. I've been looking under zip codes 28262 and 28269 for now since I'm not familiar with all the zip codes in the area.
