Hi and thank you in advance. We have some family members coming here for the first time and have no idea what to do during the afternoons on the weekends. I don't want them to be stuck inside all day. My husband and I usually do house things during the weekend days or run errands so we have no clue. Any ideas of what we could take them to during the days?

You should definitely take them to the Museum of the New South uptown (right where the light rail ends by Reid's Grocery). This museum of Charlotte history is well done and very interesting. After that, grab something to eat at any number of nearby places.

Also great for a daytime outing is the Nature Museum on the edge of Freedom Park - it is small but chock full of interesting things. Afterwards take a nice long stroll in Freedom Park itself. Have fun, this Saturday is supposed to be really nice

Or just take them on a drive to become purposely lost. You can find adventure in the oddest places. Just explore. And take the back roads , you'll see more.

Uptown - Take them to 4th ward to see the beautiful Victorian houses then have a bite to eat at Alexander Michael's. Take them to see the gorgeous lobby/bar of the new Ritz-Carleton. Ice cream at Reid's (be sure to smash the light panels on the outside of the building to hear what noise they make. Take them to see the gorgeous mural in the lobby of the Bank of America Corporate Center. Walk thru the lobby and check out the newly renovated Founders Hall. Museum of the New South is so interesting. There's so much to do uptown!

Or if you would rather head out of town, I agree that Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is a great day trip. Then you could head to The Concord Cove Restaurant, for lunch, brunch or dinner, depending on time of day.
