I live just this side of the state line so it is a no brainer for me.

I know several people who live up here at Lake Norman
who make regular runs across the border to Frugal's
and stock up and gas up at the same time. (They used
to buy Lottery tix too!)

Being Charlotte the biggest city in the state the gas prices are generally higher vs smaller metros of this state
It also cheaper if you drive to Rock Hill vs Fort Mill.
For the smokers you have til July 1st I think to stock up on cigarettes before
South Carolina has a cigarette tax increase

I never compared liquor prices, but gas tends to be 20 cents or so cheaper. But it only really makes sense to drive to South Carolina if you live right on the border, say in Steele Creek or Pineville. Now when I made trips to SC on a regular basis, I would gas up there. But if you're not going anyway, the extra driving usually isn't worth it.

Right over the border on Rte. 521 in Indian Land/Fort Mill it's typically $.20 per gallon cheaper. If you go further, into Rock Hill, you save almost $.30 per gallon. (And conveniently, Southern Spirits is right over the border as well.)

I get my gas in Tega Cay. I've started food shopping in SC as well to avoid the higher tax in Meck. I have a meeting every Thursday night in Fort Mill, so I do both errands while I'm down there to save on an extra trip.

No Sunny, the Gov vetoed the tax increase in cigarettes and the SC House has upheld the veto.

Guess again.

SC Senate Overrides Veto, Raises Cigarette Tax - News Story - WSOC Charlotte (http://www.wsoctv.com/news/23544085/detail.html - broken link)

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina lawmakers have overridden Gov. Mark Sanford's veto and raised what was the nation's lowest cigarette tax by 50 cents a pack.

Thursday's vote raises the 7 cent tax to 57 cents a pack on July 1 and leave Missouri with the nation's lowest tax at 17 cents.

The 33-13 vote in the Senate followed a 90-29 vote in the House on Wednesday after the Republican Sanford had said he wouldn't allow a tax increase on cigarettes unless it was offset by some other tax decrease.

The measure raises nearly $125 million to cover the loss of federal bailout cash next year in Medicaid programs for the elderly, disabled and poor. It also is expected to generate $5 million each for cancer research and efforts to curb smoking and $1 million for agriculture marketing.
