Was just reading today that Jeff Gordon splits his time between a fancy apartment in NYC and Charlotte, and will be spending more time here after his house is finished. So I was wondering where it was, ie what neighborhood, not the actual address.

I only know exactly where 2 of them actually live- they live in the same subdivision as a friend of mine.
Elliott Sadler did have a house on the lake as recent as 2007, but I know he spends the majority of his time in VA- especially since getting married. So, I am not sure if he still owns a house on the lake or not. (I only know this because that was the year we had the drought and he joked about how much bigger his lakefront property got)
There are several more in Mooresville (or Davidson and Huntersville) that aren't actually on the lake (Dale Earnhardt, Jr., David Ragan, Casey Mears, Denny Hamlin, etc...)
