I keep hearing this over and over. I keep hearing that the locals in Charlottesville are extremely racist towards black people and that the police actively prey on them. That scares me a bit, as I know that AAs only account for about 19% of the total population.

It makes me wonder though, are the locals really as racist as Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy claims? Could it be that perhaps all of the violent crime in Charlottesville is committed by 19% of the population? Could it be that over 90% of murders going back a full decade can be attributed to the persecuted class that V. Mayor Bellamy champions?

Could it be that someone did the research and included citations proving the above statement?

Really? Look at those stats again and ask again. Notice the black on black crime numbers? Admittedly I know not a whole lot about the city but I don't believe I'd be listening to garbage that a few may want to spew. We had an officer leave my former PD years back to work there. The nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. He could get along with satan as long as satan was respectful. He loves working there and thinks it's a great agency.

I don't think Charlottesville or any other city has a racial discrimination issue. Not saying that there aren't bad cops out there either. But the problem is the perception the media and other outlets put on the issue. The facts are that unfortunately minority groups generally do commit more crimes. It's not a racial thought, but a thought based in fact. The problem goes back generations and is cycled over and over again with certain groups stuck in a pattern unable to break out because of the cycle, and being disadvantaged by that cycle. So while the problem had it's origins in racial discrimination decades ago, it does not necessarily mean that racial discrimination is happening now. Again, I'm not suggesting that there are not racist cops, but the problem is we live in an age of political correctness, and many want to ignore the facts and make everything a political issue instead of dealing with it at a social level.

I agree with Shadowbat. We live in the age of the offended. Problems go back generations as many families pass on their dysfunction. But it is also possible for an individual to work on stopping those cycles instead of repeating them and blaming others.

I have heard Mayor Wes Bellamy being interviewed on the radio. IMO he has a chip on his shoulder. And if he wants to see a biased person, he can look in the mirror. This is a 2016 article in the UVA student newspaper:

The Cavalier Daily - :: Homophobic, sexist, anti-white language abundant in Charlottesville vice mayor's tweets

The article's subtitle is: Wes Bellamy's tweets contrast with other published messages of unity, empowerment

Charlottesville is a liberal community. Some conservatives in the area refer to it as "The People's Republic of Charlottesville."

I did not perceive that their were racial issues in C-Ville. There was a homeless issue, however, which is altogether a different set of issues.
