My husband and I are looking at buying acreage in the Lewis Chapel area on Flat Top Mountain. Can someone tell me what utilities are available in this area? Who is the electric provider, telephone, cable/satellite, and is internet service available?

Thank you!

Lynn

It depends on what exactly you mean by "Lewis Chapel area on Flat Top Mountain". I consider Lewis Chapel Mountain to be the western side of Walden Ridge (around Lewis Chapel Road, Sequatchie County, Central Time Zone), while Flat Top Mountain is the eastern side (Hamilton County, Eastern Time Zone). That isn't official, and others have other names. Also, Mowbray Mountain is the eastern side but further south of Hwy 111. The divisions are major valleys cutting through the ridge as well as the county/time zone lines.

If the eastern side or central area, electric is EPB, and EPB is also the best available internet, cable, and phone provider by far. This is in terms of both cost and service; minimum plan is 100MB/s, with up to 1GB/s available. All EPB customers have fiber-optic lines run to their house. Here is a map of the EPB service area: http://projects.timesfreepress.com/2...y/gig/gig.html

I believe water is TN American Water in that area, but I'm not sure.

If the western side, I have no idea, but you can probably get what you need from the Sequatchie County Chamber of Commerce. You may not have any wired options at all for cable or internet. DSL is hit-or-miss based on the old copper-wire telephone system; it's based on how close you are to an old node. Whichever service provider you use will be by choice; any DSL provider can provide service if your house qualifies. Your best bet would be some sort of bundle with a wireless company. Traditional fat-wire cable, if it exists in that area, will most likely be either Charter or Comcast. If you have the street address you can either call or maybe check online.

EPB recently got an FCC ruling allowing them to expand internet/cable/phone service beyond their service area, but there is a state law preventing this. EPB is publicly (taxpayer) owned, and the private companies pay lawmakers a lot of money to make sure they don't get any competition. It's kinda like a private ferry operator bribing the government to keep them from building a taxpayer-funded bridge.

It would be the western side of Walden Ridge off Henson Gap Rd. I wasn't sure if that area was called Lewis Chapel Mtn. or Flat Top Mtn. Thanks for clarifying that up. It would be in Sequatchie county. We currently live in Hamilton County, and I hate the thought of having to give up my EPB, but we want more land so we're giving it up. However, I am curious what our other options will be. I'm having a hard time finding much information online about it.
