A 2004 GTO also has a 5.7L engine rather than the 6.0. C&D ran a 6.0-equipped GTO though the 1/4 in 12.8.

I just pulled this up from car and driver kinda interesting:

Just when we thought the Camaro SS had enough competition with the Challenger SRT8, the 350Z, the WRX STI, and no less than 34 different variations of the Mustang, I come up with another question: how much better is the Camaro SS than the Pontiac GTO? The Pontiac GTO was a good car that never caught on. It featured a stout 400hp 6.0L V8, a six speed manual, good chassis dynamics, and a nice interior. The car weighed between 3700 and 3800lbs. The new Camaro SS is going to come out swinging. If packs a potent 416hp (C&D says 422hp) 6.2L V8, a six speed auto or six speed manual, a newer platform derived from the GTO’s platform, and more eye catching styling. The Camaro SS is estimated to weigh in the ballpark of 3900lbs. Assuming a weight of 3750 for the GTO, the power to weight ratio becomes 9.375lbs/hp. The Camaro SS, with 416hp and 3900lbs, has an identical 9.375lbs/hp power to weight ratio (9.24 if it has 422hp). In a drag race, I expect the Camaro to edge the GTO. I have seen GTO’s run 13.2 bone-stock, so I expect the Camaro to run in the 13.0-13.2 range. Yes, the Camaro will be fast. The Camaro chassis is a newer version of the GTO chassis. We should fully expect Camaro to whoop on the Goat through the corners. GM will most likely include a nice interior in the Camaro as well. So here is what it comes down to, the Camaro will be better than the GTO. If you own a GTO, should you trade it in for a Camaro? Trade in values on a clean GTO range from 15K to 20K, and the Camaro will probably cost in the ballpark of 35K. So if you are in the market for a new car, then go right ahead. If you aren’t ready to part with your GTO, then just spend a little bit of cash on some mods and you’ll keep the Camaro in sight.
----------------------------------------
the only thing I find the 04-06 GTO's lack is the in your face styling people mistake my car for a pontiac grand am with hood scoops spometimes

Would have been nice if the LT wheels were optional on the LS.
Yeah I noticed that on the Chevy website. Unfortunately black wheels seem to be the latest thing, but I think they're ugly.

Sorry to hear that you two are having to get rid of the fun cars. My wife would not let me sell the Camaro, it is a 3rd car, but I was still ready to sell her when we found out we were going to have a little one.

So he can afford to drop 40 large on a car but he can't afford to get his own place? And his parents put up with this?? I'd have been like "Nice car, kid. I hope you really, really like it because it's your new home."
