In October I'll be driving to Grayslake, IL (Rts 45 & 120) I'm going to be staying in that area for several days and am wondering about a suitable area where I can exercise my dog 2 or 3 times a day. He is a "bird dog", 4 yrs old with lots of excess energy. He is trained to respond to "cues" given through his electronic training collar, and will return to me when "cued" to do so.
I obviously keep him on a leash until I have found an area that appears suitable for him to run free (he stays within approx 200 feet)

On a map of the area, I notice there is the "Almond Marsh Forest Preserve" about 3/4 miles east of the intersection of 120 & 45. Is it acceptable practice to allow a dog (that is under complete control) to exercise in a Forest Preserve? (Note: I always have some plastic baggies with me to pick up his "droppings", just in case.)

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Almond Marsh does not have an official Dog Exercise area. But the Independence Grove Forest Preserve does. It is right on Milwaukee Av, Rt 21, south of 120 and north of 137.

Leashed dogs only in Forest Preserve unless is a designated dog exercise / training area. In DuPage Co. you need an additional tag on the collar for use of the designated area ( about $30. / year, not one day option, tickets are more than tag...) not sure if Lake iis also doing the fee...

Daily permits for the dog exercise areas are $10 for nonresidents. Self-pay stations are available at the parking lots. Annual permits are available as well.
