I heard good things about Crete IL...Has anyone else lived there or know anything?

I lived in Park Forest during high school & went to crete-monee hs. Crete is a nice area. The only thing is it's surrounded by towns that in my opinion aren't too great. I can tell you that the hs has been getting really bad.when i went there (graduated in '01) the hs was alright. as long as a student was in honors classes they could get an ok education. the regular level classes were awful. my little brother & sister said it got a lot worse after I left.
The shopping in the surrounding towns isn't that great. There's lincoln mall which is in matteson but it's pretty ghetto.
I dunno, I know you can find a really nice home in a really nice area of crete but for me it's not worth it b/c of what it's next to. definitely not worth it if you have kids (all my friends that grew up in the area agree, none of us want to raise our family around there). So, I guess it just depends on what you want. I hope you get a lot more opinions to help you out. I just hate being such a downer. Good Luck!

Crete is a quaint town, but I've noticed some businesses in the downtown area leaving. You can get a large home for a reasonable price, but the school system isn't all that great. If you're looking for a town near there with a small town feel, check out Homewood or Flossmoor--much better schools, low crime, but expensive property taxes.
