Looking for a private stable in the Elgin, Schaumburg, Streamwood, Bartlett, Hanover Park area allowing horseback riding at a reasonable price. Would consider also helping with chores. Willing to consider ANY offer at this point. Let me know if there is anyone in the area that might consider...

Thanks!

I think Perfecta Farm is out that way. They have an excellent rep. in training H/J. Welcome To Perfecta Farm

also check out the IHJA website for other stables around Chicago.

It would help if you told us what kind of riding you do. I don't know of any private barns that board others horses. There are a couple of barns on Sleepy Hollow Road. One is called Headless Horseman, can't remember the name of the other. I've looked at the other one and the arena is gorgeous but you have to go outside from the barn to get to the indoor arena, they aren't attached. There is a place on Boncosky called Frontenac Farm. I've heard it's an eventing barn. There's a place on the far SW side of Elgin called Just N Tyme Farm that does hunt seat. There's Jaynesway on 59, but it's pretty big.

I've only ridden western and would love to learn barrel racing or pole bending eventually. However, around here most people are more into the english seat. I'd be interested in learning how to ride english for now as that is probably the most available. I heard it helps people develop a deeper seat as well.

Sorry, I don't know anything about where you could ride western, but you might find it fun to do some english for a while. There are definitely some major differences, obviously the saddle. Last time I was in a western saddle, it drove me nuts with all the extra leather. Then I spent a week in Spain riding in dressage and trail saddles, came home and got on horse with a fairly narrow barrel in my little jumping saddle and felt like a jockey! Honestly, it felt like my knees were up by my ears. Less obvious difference is the amount of contact with the bit. It's definitely not a harsh contact riding english, but from what I hear you use much less contact in western. If you approach it with an open mind, you could definitely benefit. They give hunt seat lessons at Just N Tyme in Elgin.
Have you tried The Chronicle of the Horse forum? They are also mainly english sports and it seems mainly people from the coasts, but I know there are some Chicago area people on the board there who may have a better idea. I know there is a tiny little stable (don't know the name) on 19 east of Elgin. I don't know if they are a particular style of riding. Doubt they have an indoor. I think there are a lot more people riding western out towards Rockford area, but I don't know anything out that way.

I've already come to the fact that I'll probably have to ride english which I'm ok with. I know there's another stable called Little Creek Quarter Horse Farm on Schaumburg Rd in Elgin. How much are you paying for lessons at Just N Tyme? Are the trainers good?
