Hi,

I'm going to be working in Lisle, IL, and am looking for a good suburb to live in. Safety and living in a quality area is my biggest concern. (I've had 2 break-ins the past 2 years).... not fun whatsoever. I was hoping to live somewhere between Lisle and Palatine, as my girlfriend will be commuting there. Suggestions??

Thanks

Schaumburg makes sense, but you will hate it. Lisle is not a horrible commute, Palatine is OK too. The downside is the "genericness" -- lots of crummy apartments, boring chain resturants bars where people go after work or while in town on business trips. Many many "college romances" die in Schuamburg when people decide they are not ready for life to get that routine that fast...

Much cooler to live in Chicago but then you would both have really awful commutes (and more exposure to other college age people to hook up with...)

Any opinions on Carol Stream, wheaton, glen ellyn, naperville, or saint charles?? I'm kind of looking for a "youthful" place, with little to no crime.

No, is that what I would be signing up for?? Can't be much worse than Lafayette, IN.

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, I will not subject my children to that level of nothingness. Just my opinion of course.

what suburb?? I'll be sure to avoid that one . Just looking for an area for the next few years. I'm only 22, and would like someplace where younger people are.

Suburban apartments are significantly cheaper than "hip" neighorhoods in the city. And it's nice to actually have expendible income. What's the point of urban entertainment and resturants if you can barely afford groceries and rent? I'd suggest southewst suburban Oak Forest or Tinley Park. Metra is local if you want to catch the train to the city. Weekend passes are six bucks these days.

That said, there are pleanty of North Side neighorhoods in areas like Lakeview where you can be surrounded by young professionals such as yourself. Young professionals aren't usually big on commiting crimes. They're might be big on being afraid of crime but not commiting crime.

My two cents. :-)

One more thing: In spite of my recomendation, I'm not so sure you're any less likely to have your apartment broken into in Tinley Park, IL than Lakeview, Chicago. Crime is very real in the suburbs and I seriously hope you don't believe otherwise. Welcome to the 3rd largest metro area in the country my friend. ;-)
