Default Homer Glen - new elite village

I-355 just opened 11/11/2007- The towns it is running through are breathtaking beautiful! Lemont, Homer Glen, Lockport. If you haven't been out here to see the acres of land, trees, wildlife, I highly recommend it! Minutes to all the great shopping. The best of this is that the homes are still affordable. But not for long. We bought an awesome 4 bedroom house on an acre lot. For under 400k! It needed very little work. Fresh paint, some landscape. I have a 3 car garage! No more paying $200 a month rent to park in the city! yea.

I live in a condo in Evanston and what you're talking about is where we will go next in terms of price, etc. There is nothing in Evanston that is in a good neighborhood, BUT you can find a cute house in that price range (not big and not lots of character either) in Wilmette.

You can find many nice houses in Gurnee well within your range, but it is a little far out in distance. Evanston is pushing the envelope on your price range. Consider Skokie or Lincolnwood. Nice well-constructed homes from the 1960s-80s very reasonably priced.

What about Itasca--Lombard-- you might even find a deal in Elmhurst-- that puts you within a 30 minute commute (on good days)

There are a couple 4 bedroom tri-levels for under 450k in Unincorporated North Elmhurst. These were built in the late 60's and well-constructed. "Crown Estates" is a great neighborhood, but does have a bit of airport noise. Schools are quality and they are addressing the recent downturn in test scores aggressively. Parking in town is convenient and there are many trains to the city and back every day. There are some great bargains out there right now. Good luck.

I live in itasca and there are a few homes in that price range, but it's quite the commute to the city.... then there is taking the train, that would be faster.

but as for housing.... we were booming a few years ago, but sales have all but died.
