I am looking for a property in Woodridge where the assigned elementary school is not so good. There is another elementary school in the district which is relatively close by to the property and has a better rating than the assigned one. In Illinois is it allowed to switch schools within same school district?

There are currently no state laws that either allow or prevent this.

Local school boards should have policies that they can share about"school attendance areas". I would caution that even in areas where there are technically "open" policies that due to the lack of statewide laws it may not be wise to pursue this as things like busing and even your kids having no friends in the neighborhood may make this more hassle than it is worth...

There are no state laws, but some districts allow open enrollment with some restrictions.

If the school you want your child to attend is overcrowded, switching will probably not be allowed.

Back when my dd was in school in Evanston, we open enrolled her across town for 7th grade after she had a horrible experience with 6th grade (it was a 6 to 8 school at the time). We did have to drive her since they would not bus, but she is still friends with her 7th grade locker partner today and she is 40 years old. Interestingly, we switched in spite of the fact that the school she was zoned to had a better educational reputation. We did not find that it made a difference in her education at all, but it did make a big difference in how happy she was and in her social experience.
