I'm still looking into some western suburbs of Chicago and have really been interested in St. Charles and Batavia but have seen that houses are a bit cheaper in Aurora. Without dealing with statistics, how is Aurora? Is it a good place to raise a family?

Aurora is HUGE. It is served by at least four very distinct school districts. Buying a home in one over the other two makes a dramatic difference in costs. The far eastern edge is served by District 204. This is near Fox Valley and many people equate it with Naperville, though the Naperville 203 schools generally have higher rating from the respected sources. Interactive Illinois Report Card

To the immediate east is East Aurora District 131. Not very desirable: Interactive Illinois Report Card

On Aurora's West Side is West Aurora District 129. Performance is about inline with state norms: Interactive Illinois Report Card

To the southwest there are parts of Aurora served by District 308: Interactive Illinois Report Card

There may even be a few bits of Aurora in the very highly rated 203: Interactive Illinois Report Card

Location means a lot, more so in Aurora than most other towns. But even in the other towns you mentioned there are more and less desirable results from the high schools, let alone the elementary / middle schools.

I don't put much faith in the Illinois PSAE tests, as they are very weak. That said it can be a quick and dirty way to separate schools with some pretty dramatic differences.

Once you really get serious about just a few homes you should dig deeper and determine if the whole picture of one area is really better for you than another, but as a high level explanation of one really big difference of why certain area of Aurora are to be avoided I think the Interactive Report show a big reason.

I made a boo-boo and pasted the links for the 308 elementary school. The rest of the links are for high schools. There are is POOR cross comparison:

Very tough choices, must be vigilant and cognizant of which school would be serving the home you buy and likely direction of performance at the time you may want to sell OR utilize local schools OR send kids to private school...

as chet said, aurora is really large and very diversified. you may want to narrow some things down further. I would suggest staying away from the east aurora school district.

Aurora is very nice in spots, not nice in others. Make sure you visit the area a lot and find out what schools your kids would attend before you make the move.
