I disagree--I live in the western part of Schaumburg. I hate malls so I rarely shop at Woodfield. Schaumburg has miles of designated bike lanes. They also have been revamping the downtown area which is adjacent to Schaumburg and Roselle Road.

On Monday evenings in the summer, they have free concerts on the square.

The school district is also excellent and it is racially diverse, my husband is Asian and I am Caucasian.

I especially like to go fishing and biking on Bode Lake (Barrrington road and Bode road). The park district offers a lot of classes not just for kids but for adults as well. You will also get more bang for your buck in Schaumburg.

I used to think Schaumburg meant Woodfield Mall, but I urge you to explore the area beyond Woodfield.

Hi,I agree with you about the nice park district on that side of town,HOWEVER the OPs request dealt with the walkablity of the town to shops, restaraunts, book stores etc. Oak Park fits that bill better for them

Thanks all for the additional input. I did get a change to explore the area a little, but as Nanannie mentioned, didn't see any areas that compared to the "walkability" that Oak Park provides. Didn't see any stores/restaurants *within* the neighborhoods. Of course, I didn't get to see everything, so if there are areas that fit the bill better, please feel free to share. Of course, if we can't sell our house it's all a moot point :-(
