I would assume you have a bigger budget in mind than the OP of this thread. Pretty much any of the subburbs including Northbrook are nice. Allstate is pretty far from any of the Metra train routes there may be some Pace buses so public transit is limited.

Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Des Plaines, Niles, Morton Grove, Skokie), and towns to the east of it that are even more affluent bedroom communities (ie. Glencoe, Winnetka, etc.)
consider the highlighted a plus: it tends to fund more of the tax base than in similar suburbs (like Glenview) without that degree of big business.

one nice thing about Northbrook is that while some truly major attractions are not in town, they are minutes away……such as Ravinia in HP, botanic gardens in Glencoe, the great restaurant row on Milw Ave in Wheeling.

Let's give Northbrook credit for great schools (while too many school districts) and with GBN, one of the best high schools in the metro area.

Default Well, among the other north/northwest suburban high schools...

...the rankings of Stevenson, Hersey, Deerfield, and Highland Park are all higher -- Top Illinois High Schools | Best High Schools | US News - US News

To be sure, Glenbrook is still a desirable district but the shifts in demographics and the emphasis on things that pay off for college readiness have helped the surrounding schools...

What do you mean shift in demographics and emphasis on things that pay off for college readiness?

Default Nothing sinster...

...there is a long history of school performance moving in parallel with household income. The kinds of people that have higher incomes have largely clustered into towns with either the kinds of traditional rail centric cores of Hersey or Highland Park or the more "estate sized" homes in the areas served by Stevenson or the combination of teardowns and renovated homes in Deerfield. These are not major shifts and their are still lots of well off folks in Northbrook but the fact is that a decade or so back the desirability / income profile of Northbrook was a bit higher...

Just curious why you think so? Seems like the data from the latest census showed income going up even adjusted for inflation.
