Hey. So I really hate to be 'that guy' (despite having to just be it) but we have this like coach house behind our apartment building where this dude has like some kind of artists workshop and he's thrown a few parties there. Which is cool and all but a bunch of the residents in the building strip have decks right by it and me and several others get up at 5-9 am- on the weekends as well- to go to work and there's like dozens of people showing up so what are the laws like here in Chicago?

Is it legal to have these kinds of parties in a work space that isn't a residence?

I sure hope you do not live in an area known to be a party area, has many young people, and bars. The douche that got the Lounge Ax shut down is on a lot of people's **** list still.

Nope. Just a normal neighborhood. Plus there aren't live bands- just ****ty techno music and a lot of obnoxious yuppies.

So wait- it IS against the law then since it isn't his residence?

There is a law that states there must not be a high level of noise after a certain time (I think it is like 10pm or midnight.)

I do not think it has anything to do with if the space is a residence or not.

Yeah- we're above Simon's so the other guy's noise is pretty bad. It's just like a last resort thing. I don't mind the bar because the owner is chill and they don't have annoying supped up bass going all through the night.

Our deck isn't right across from him but the jerk's got like flashing lights and loud bad techno going.

One would think, right? I mean, I've never had to call the cops in my life before. I tried a month ago and he just slammed the door in my face. I wasn't even in a pissy mood at the time, I just wanted him to tweak the bass down. *sigh*
