I would think people moving out of Chicago, would post questions about wherever they're moving to, in the forum of where they're going.

There does seem to be the occasional "I hate Chicago" thread.

'Can anyone recommend a neighborhood, with decent restaurants but not too crazy of a bar scene, that I can move from?'

Generally families who can't afford, or don't want to pay for private/parochial schools, but don't want their kids going to Chicago public schools.

Yes singles getting older and buying a house or if they have kids may move out of the city. Many many have due to schools, play areas, crime or perception of crime, need for more open spaces and larger houses at lower prices.

I think a lot of young people move to Chicago, or any other major American city for that matter, just to get away from their hometowns, but eventually move back to settle down near their families.

Immigrants make up a significant portion. Chicago is a major port of entry for immigrants, but many of them move out after a few years of getting used to the US. I've had a few immigrant neighbors who saved up enough money to buy a house in Cicero or Aurora, but can't afford to buy in a decent neighborhood in the city.

I don't have any immediate plans to move, but my fiance is from Massachusetts and really wants to move to Boston, so it's quite possible that after the wedding, as much as I love living in Chicago, I'll be saving money to move away.
