Hey I was looking forward into moving to Chicago from Cincinnati this spring for a job transfer in the downtown Chicago area and I don't have a car yet .I was wondering is there any ways of public transportation from the Roger Park and Edgewater (the area where I might be staying at) toward the downtown Chicago area?

You don't want to drive a car downtown if you don't need it once you get down there. Parking is mega expensive. Rogers Park and Edgewater have some of the best public transportation schedules for the entire city of Chicago. Try this link http://www.transitchicago.com/travel...n/default.aspx

There's a train line from Rogers Park and Edgewater straight to downtown, though it will take a while to get there because there's about 8,372 stops between these neighborhoods and downtown. The Howard stop on the Rogers Park/Evanston border has a train that runs express for about half its route to downtown, though it only runs to and from downtown during rush hour. But living near the Howard stop is an urban adventure of the "Over the Rhine" variety -- a weird and uneasy mix of yuppies and 'hood, but without the convenience of being adjacent to downtown.

This area has Red Line (CTA) train access, bus access & even Metra access to downtown. It would be a great place to be to have manageable rents and a fairly quick commute to downtown. If you can somehow access the Rogers Park or Ravenswood Metra stops, you'd be able to get to downtown extremely fast.

I don't think there are actually 8,732 stops between where you live and the Loop, but it will probably seem like it until you get used to the train routes. Parking downtown can cost as much as $400 a month or more.
