Sorry but no credit check / no deposit means you will be staying at the YMCA or some sort of transient shelter. There isnt a landlord alive that wont do a credit check - if there are bad things on your report - be honest & tell them the deal. In this economy there are hundreds with medical bill, school loan, divorce, and credit card, & bank debt. If you're on the young side ( under 25 ) they may even excuse a car repossession if you have one. The key is to sell the fact that you have steady employment and no current judgements against you regarding property damage or crime. Alot of properties on the northside are managed by a firm or realty office, but you may luck up on landlord with a few properties they manage themselves. If all else fails - find a roomate, and stay there until your credit is pretty enough to be checked.

You might be able to find one of the other, but almost certainly not both. Some landlords might be persuaded to overlook a credit check if you paid a larger security deposit, just as they might offer you a lower (or zero) deposit if your credit was particularly good.

A landlord wants someone who can pay them money to live in their property. If your credit is poor and you have no savings, there's very little reason to suspect you'll be a regularly paying tenant.

Many mom and pop landlords, especially in rougher areas will forgo a credit check. These days bad credit is much more common than one would think.

No deposit? No freakin way. Only the most incompetent and inexperienced landlord would rent to someone without a deposit.

There is a large management company in the city that does it, and you can see it in the units. They look like hell.

My apartment in Bridgeport had no deposit, but it was an older lady who for whatever reason, trusted me. It turned out well for her beause I didn't destroy the place.

I've had landlords who didn't do credit checks, but they required deposits.

I also had a landlord who didn't require any deposits, however, there was a non refundable "move in" fee and a credit check

no credit check and no deposits? good luck. try renting a room instead (though don't be surprised if even people looking to rent out rooms don't ask for some sort of deposits. I would, even if the landlord hadn't).

I wouldn't live in a place that doesn't charge a deposit.

yeah i've pretty much changed my mind as far a deposit as long it doesn't go too far out of my budget but credit checks i'm not so sure of cause my girlfriend has an eviction on her history. might hinder us a bit. but my rent history is good.

honestly, other than Craigslist, your best bet is to find an area you like and walk around and look for "For Rent" signs. a lot of the small time owners may not use CL or other online sources (esp. if they're older or from another country, as has been my experience). other online resources may require a fee to post an ad, discouraging many LLs. if you're currently out of time, you'll have to budget some time to do this since this can take more than a couple of days
