Why did they miss so many people this time around? Poor questionaire response rates? Illegal immigrants trying to stay out of site? Incompetence?

The thread is about the count being off, not the actual population shrinking. I do not believe that Chicago lost 200,000 people. I will only acknowledge that they counted 200,000 less.

Considering the growth in the core of the city, that would mean, what, something like 300K people left mainly in South and West sides?

I know the pop is lower in those areas, but that much lower? Unlikely.

It was well publicized that Chicago had one of the worst response rates in the country for the Census forms. I have no faith in the numbers.

Some areas on the west side had a response rate of 40%, 6 out of 10 residents didn't respond!!
