From my Wicker Park condo, I have an incredibly unique and impressive panoramic view of the Chicago skyline, from Sears/Willis Tower, north all the way up to the Edgewater highrises, and as of today, I can count four construction cranes:

-One in the South loop
-One near the Hancock Building
-One (that went up today) over by Whole Foods and the Sonopoly high rise; and
-One that is building that new luxury high rise over in Lincoln Park.

Are these signs of a recovering economy?

Interesting economic indicator you observed.
Maybe you can keep track of hours in operation as a data point.

Yes, that would be a great idea! Unfortunately tho, it is too late, as I am not home enough to track that, and one of the cranes (the one in Lincoln Park) has been in operation for weeks now.

Or go up to them and ask how many hours a week is the crane in operation.

Sonopoly is the douchey, marketing gimmick name of the high rise that they built over in the area over by North and Halsted, while SoNo is the douchey, marketing gimmick name that the Realtors tried to assign to the area over there that is South of North ave, which is where the Sonopoly building resides.

That has to be the stupidest name I have ever seen for a high rise. Someone that buys in that building and calls it Sonopoly should get a homey the clown every day of their lives.
