Hi guys I'm from california and will be moving to chicago this may. It will be the first time I will be going to chicago. I will be assigned to work around downtown (the loop) and looking for a place to rent probably near that area, I have a wife and 2 kids. I am looking for a 2 bedroom apartment, with parking space, safe neighborhood and have a budget of 1,500. What safe neighborhood would be best suitable close to downtown with my budget? Thanks!

Ukrainian Village would be perfect for you.

South Loop, Lincoln Park, Lake View, Andersonville, Lincoln Square are some options.

That seems to be your standard response lately. Maybe you should elaborate for the out of towner.

Ukie is a bad suggestion actually. The ctrl-v responses on this board are awful.

You would have a hard time finding a two bedroom for $1500 in Lincoln Park, or South Loop. You might be able to find one in Lake View, but thats even a stretch. Andersonville and Lincoln Square is doable.

To the OP, I would suggest you either A) realize that you need to raise your budget, or B) Live farther out of the city in a nice area for kids, longer commute of course.

Here is a general idea of what prices are in the city. Scroll down to 2 bedrooms. According to Domu, you can only afford to live in Lincoln Square and Logan Square. Both of those are a minimum 40 minute commute to the loop. Hope that helps.
