Hi All

New to the forum and hoping to find some answers here. I am currently looking for a new place to move to and I have found some nice places in that very northeast corner of Rogers Park on East Lakeview Terrace (1 block east of Sheridan) and Howard (both to the north and south). The places I saw I really liked and I walked around the area and didn't get a bad vibe. I understand that across Sheridan can get a bit dicey and thus getting to the el might be hard - that isn't too big of an issue because I work from home a lot.

I am looking for some general opinions on this area - don't hold back. Also any red flags I am missing? Thanks.

I believe you are referring to N Eastlake Terrace which has some really cool buildings (many right on the lakefront). The problem, as you indicated, is the walk from there to the el. Juneway and Howard are both dicey at night. If you work from home and don't plan to trek to the el after dark I wouldn't be too concerned.

I think that's a pretty cool little pocket, if you didn't need tons of nightlife in the immediate vicinity it should work.

Don't do it. There has been heavy gang infestation of that area for years. A gang activity map recently published shows that area as active as some of the worst West/South side 'hoods. I will try to remember where I saw this map and post a link-signed 20 year RP/Edgewater resident.

I lived very close to there a while back, never had a problem and most never due, that area is pretty isolated from the greater areas problems.

It's a great street. Comments about the "Juneway Jungle" are appropriately made and you can avoid that by taking a bus from the "El" station at Howard St. to Sheridan Rd. and walking home, or by carefully - late-night - walking from the El and along the south side of Howard Street. You can also take the 147 bus from Downtown to Howard & Sheridan, and walk from there.

Since one of the other posters mentioned something about gangs, here is a link to the interactive Chicago gang map:

ChicagoGangs.org Website

I don't see any problem on the east side of Sheridan (per this map anyway).

You indicated that you feel the northside map is not current? As relates to the extreme NE corner of Rogers Park?

What boundaries on the map do you feel have changed as relates to the above?

The RP boundaries in the NE quadrant seem pretty true to form.
