I find this city Chicago to be quite on the warm side. It's thanksgiving, I was out in shorts today. What is the big fuss.

A little too much wind though. But seriously, there is snow everywhere else.

The forecast (extended ) shows 50's into the next 10 days.

You guys don't know cold.

I see you are not a local. November is no where near Chicago at it's coldest. Nor does it usually snow much in November.

While there are lots of places colder than Chicago there are also lots of places warmer. It really depends on what you are used to.

November is still Autumn. Just try wearing shorts in mid-January when it's in the single digits with a wind chill factor of -15℉.

It's Thanksgiving? Or is the OP coming to us from the future?

The temperature has been above average lately, but as others have said, November ain't s**t.

But he's right.
People exaggerate the cold saying we have snow and below freezing temps half a year.

Among cities in the northern part of the country, Chicago does not stand out in terms of snow.

On the east coast Boston, and possibly even (although probably only by a little) even NYC gets more snow than Chicago. Although their winter temps are a definitely a few degrees warmer.

Chicagos midwestern/Great Lakes siblings Detroit and Cleveland, also get slightly more snow and gray skies, but are a degree or two on average warmer in the winter with a little less wind.

The only major metro area in the US that is considerable colder is Minn-St. Paul. They are about 10-15 degrees colder (although sunnier with a touch less snow) than Chicago being further norther and away from the moderating effects of the Great Lakes.

Toronto may also have winters that are slightly longer, snowier, colder but not by much.

I see you're not from the area. Just wait 'till mid-January.

You should've been here Thanksgiving Day 2005. The actual temperature didn't break 20 degrees all day, and the wind chill was subzero.

It was the coldest Thanksgiving I can remember in my lifetime, and I've always lived in the Great Lakes area.

But the other posters above are correct. November is still autumn... and a couple months from now it will get much colder than this. Typically November in Chicago has some cold days (30s), but they're usually interspersed with some relatively mild days in the 50s. Normal high for this time of year is about mid-40s, IIRC.

I'm guessing sentern is from the Canadian north, possibly Manitoba.
