I am moving to Chicago and someone told me that gold coast/streeterville is a great place for a young professional since shopping, restaurants, and malls are close by. Is this true? If so my friend suggested the following building that currently has a studio for rent as he thought the rent was cheap for that area

... any more information and advice will help? I am looking for a place that is within a 5 minute walk ... as I will be working in NBC tower...close to restaurants and in a building that is safe and newer in nature with rent between 1300 and 2000. It can be a studio or 1 bedroom

Thanks

Sara

I hate the term Chi-town.

I think that you'll enjoy Streeterville. You might also check-out 420 East Ohio. Good luck!

Is 420 East have transit close by as it seems close to the pier and a longer walk from trader joes and whole foods. Are there grocery stores near by as good as trader joes?

Go to walkscore.com and type in any address to get its 'walkability' report. You can judge for yourself whether or not one address meets your needs better than another, but I doubt public transportation or groceries will ever be a much of an inconvenience in the area your investigating.

Thanks! I think it's the same as calling San Francisco "Frisco" - most locals don't like it. Good luck with your apartment search.

As a resident of the area and someone not too old yet, River North is better for a "young professional" and certain parts of Gold Coast are too. Streeterville is fine but IMO it's not as exciting as the other two. It's laid back but not in a particularly memorable way. With that budget you should be fine in either area and Streeterville is not bad, but my vote would go to River North, actually and parts of Gold Coast.

There are also other non-downtown parts of Chicago that are good for this type of thing too that are perfectly safe with a ton going on. I'd look into those as well if you being downtown isn't something you HAVE to have. Your money will also stretch further in most (not all) of the other areas. You could get a 2 bedroom in some of these places for $1600-$2000/month and it will not be bad.
