Chevanston Rogers Park

I started a news/development/community Blog
encompassing Evanston and Chicago
(South Evanston and Rogers Park)

Just thought you guys might find it interesting.

Since there is already a Skevanston.
I thought it only natural to call it Chevanston.

Nah, thought I do appreciate the input Drover
But there already exists an entity known as Skevanston.
Yeah I see I mentioned that.
I actually found evidence of a mention of Chevanston
on the internet from 2007. So thats not total
evidence that its a winner, but I feel that its
the only natural combination that could work at all.

You cant really combine South Evanston
and Rogers Park is any meaningful way.

I just figured it made sense since Chicago and Skokie
are both Indian names and adding them to the
front of Evanston just kinda works.

Skevanston is Evanston Address with Skokie Services.

BTW you guys if you check out the blog
will see that a nice wine bar is opening up
on Howard on the Evanston side Ward Eight.

A nice example of Chevanston in a picture.

I am guessing that you don't meaningful so much as "catchy"...

The bigger issue might be who would be a target for such an online resource? There really is not so much demand for real estate in those areas that there is need for a specialized web site, is there? It is not such a hot spot that it needs specialized entertainment or dining coverage separate from sites that more broadly cover the region.

Maybe you can just focus on your very personal stories and that will drive reader ship.

Good Luck!

I think it needs a site to cover local issues and development,
just as you have Uptown update for uptown,
but its not quite the same sort of site.

its part local activism and part boosterism and part just fun

thanks for input chet.
right no good catchy way for rpse to combine

Au Contraire Mon Frere.

Ah Yes the perennial doubters of Rogers Park and South Evanston continue to be ignorant of the direction
both are going and will be going. Yes both are troubled, but more and more if people havent been by they just DONT know what they are talking about. Its BECOMING a hotspot RIGHT NOW. So much is going on that now it DOES deserve its own blog. There WILL BE more and more demand for real estate as time goes on. NOW is a good time to buy. The smart money is on Rogers Park AND South Evanston.

For one James Pritzker has alot of his money in Rogers Park and he is nobody's fool. He owns the Frank Lloyd Wright House (Emil Bach House) on Sheridan, The Farcroft (tallest building in Rogers Park and is currently being renovated), The Cats Cradle Bed and Breakfast right next to the FLW building. He also owns Rogers Park Vintage Management which manages the rest of the many apartment buildings he owns in Rogers Park. ALL EL stops are either renovated or are currently undergoing renovations. Huge demographic changes are occuring and are obvious except for those completely ignorant and those who continue for some reason WANT to continue believing that Rogers Park is a dump and always will be.

Who might be a target for this BLOG? Young kids, Older people looking to relocate to the city again
Really anyone with a brain and curiosity.

Rogers Park and South Evanston has LOCATION (by Lake Michigan), and good Building Stock and Public
Transportation. They are situated inbetween Downtown Evanston and Edgewater. It also has a private
university on the rise (Loyola) which is buying up properties left and right in the area and its expanding.
Really there are too many other factors and things going on to discuss in one response, so thats why
I just decided to start a blog.

Just drive down Morse Ave from Clark to Sheridan and back and tell me Im wrong Chet.
Have dinner at the Mayne Stage and tell me that Rogers Park is still a backwater ghetto with no future.

I don't think Rogers Park is "a back water ghetto" but I similarly disagree that it is some kind of blossoming hipster hot spot. I similarly don't think Evanston is some magical place.

Don't take this the wrong way but there are folks blowing the trumpet for Logan Square, Irving Park, Pilsen, Bridgeport, Bronzeville, Oak Park, Berwyn and a dozen other neighborhoods / suburbs that are not significantly closer / better / worse than any other...

The overall trends of employment / income are not pointing toward any "seismic shifts" in the region. There are too many folks chasing some elusive creature that freely spends money in an environment with a tremendous amount of over priced real estate...

I would strongly recommend against basing your real estate price predictions on things like which heir to generational wealth is pouring money into an area. Beleive me, just because your grand pappy made a lot of money riding the real estate prices from depression lows to post WW II highs does NOTHING to reverse the long term shifts in what people live where...

@chet everett.
Well the hipsters have just discovered Rogers Park. However I do not envision hipsters as the FUTURE of Rogers Park.
I know that this is often the line taken on city data forum. Which is okay. On Skyscrapercity Forum or Skyscrapercitypage
or chicago curbed, its MORE development driven and pro city. All we are talking about here are opinions, ofcourse.

Putting generational money into a region is HUGE. There arent alot of people with a BILLION dollars (pritzker), so that just a little more than someones Grand Pappy putting money into a region.

People went overboard with Real Estate obviously and so now people are OVERLY pessimisitic about it, people, people, we are so emotional, which is why business and finance and real estate et. al. are subject to human emotion. But taking a cold calculated eye and looking over the long term, one would have to be blind to not see that CAR BASED living is just not where the future is. So I disagree with you about "seismic shifts", I think there are major shifts happening and slowly over time.

I am not chasing an elusive creature.
People have to invest when prices are low and the naysayers have the day. And to beware when people are going overboard with their wild speculations. I did not found this blog to try to get people to buy real estate, thats up to them,
its a blog that I am using to point out community problems (like trash/graffiti) and point out solutions (take care of your area like restoring fire hydrants) and point out the new things going on and just for fun.

Also those other neighborhoods you mention Chet arent on the Lake Front and arent inbetween Evanston downtown and Edgewater, and they dont have the beach that Rogers Park has. Thats what puts Rogers Park into a category of its own.

I like this area, I have friends who are 2nd generation+ residents here.

Chevanston sounds a bit like a Chevy company town or something, though. Maybe they'll sponsor you!
