I was currently making mortgage payments under an approved GMAC loan modification (HAMP) program using my UI benefits, but I have exhausted my UI benefits last month and would like to take advantage of the Illinois Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) program. What is the wisest thing to do now? Do I apply for the HHF program? Do I try for a short sale? Do I just let the property go into default/foreclosure?

Of course, I am doing the obvious! Looking for work.....searching for a roomate to help with the mortgage.....but nothing positive has come my way yet. I've been dealing with this matter for 1.6 years now.

I am trying not to become homeless and am currently using Illinois social services to maintain sanity!

Looking for information, suggestions with pros and cons!

Thanking you in advance while I wait for responses!

You should definitely apply to the IL Hardest Hit Fund. As long as your HAMP mod is no longer in a trial, you can use HHF payments for a HAMP modified loan. It can help you for up 18 months while you look for work.

Quick question regarding the IL Hardest Hit Fund program. If GMAC accepts the HHF payments for "x" number of months, will GMAC accept the remaining mortgage payments under the HAMP agreement?

I followed your suggestion and the IL Hardest Hit Program declined my application because my HAMP Loan Modification agreement included a Ballon Payment. Wow! Is this legal? What other options are open to me now? I feel like I am on a sinking ship by trying to remain in my home for over 20 years.

Check out Home | Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago - there are a LOT of programs out there right now to help people struggling with their mortgage. It's free to meet and work with counselors.
