Anyone else tired of having to move their cars for street cleanings? I don't get why we even have them. What exactly are they cleaning off the streets because they always look the same to me. I think its just a way to get revenue from tickets.

This time of year the various seeds and pods that fall from trees will build up and clog sewers. Those clog sewers will lead to flooded basements. Chicago storm sewers are tied into the sanity sewers -- sewage backing up into basements is not good. Street cleaning is an essential part of flood prevention / sanitation.

Is street cleaning really needed EVERY Monday from April to Oct. just along Ravenswood Ave where Metra UP North runs? Why only there and nowhere else is weekly street cleaning needed? There is nowhere to park; I have to drive to the Loop, but the city cleans up with tickets.

Depends on the street. Large main streets get it once a week. Smaller side streets about once a month per side(i.e. Mon. one side of the street and tue. the other).

Street cleaning is not a taxpayer's waste of money. I like that streets are clean and they usually only do that after-hours when most cars are gone. Compare streets in NYC that are not that much cleaned as in Chicago and you'll see how it makes a nice difference. Chicago cleans not only streets but also sidewalks.

Yeah, I'm gonna add to the chorus that you're just plain wrong. Street cleaning is good. Don't like moving your car? Get your own private spot. The whole idea of free public parking, now THERE'S something that's a waste of taxpayer money.

DUH! The reason "they always look the same" is because they're regularly cleaned. Enough advance notice is given when the cleanings occur so that a reasonably intelligent person can easily avoid being ticketed.

Our side street in KC is only cleaned about once a season and I can definitely tell you that the difference before and after is huge -- especially because we have a lot of leafy trees.
