Take the Metra or the bus.
My girlfriend's friend actually used to do that when she lived in Hyde Park!

I'm not clear on what you mean: Did your girlfriend's friend used to take Metra or the bus or did she used to walk through Washington Park looking for victims?

LOL. She used to live in Hyde Park and take the El down to Washington Park and walk home from there. I thought it was kind of weird too, especially when she did it once at 11pm and was like "oh yeah I'm totally fine.."

When mentioning the Metra Electric are you referring to the South Shore line? If so they have a limited train
schedule (available at the Randolph Metra station).

The South Shore Line, although it does receive some support from Metra, is not part of Metra (and does not accept Metra tickets). The South Shore line uses Metra tracks and some Metra stations north of its Hegewisch stop. Both Metra Electric District trains and South Shore Line trains stop at the 55th/56th/57th Street Station which is the one nearest the museum.

However, South Shore Line trains are not permitted to transport people on trips that are entirely within the State of Illinois, except to and from the Hegewisch station. So, yes, you could ride the South Shore Line from Indiana or Hegewisch to the museum (and back again). But you cannot ride the South Shore Line from downtown Chicago to the Museum. You must use the Metra Electric train for that.

And please do not confuse South Shore with South Chicago. The Metra Electric District has three branch lines, one of which is called the "South Chicago" line.

South Shore Line information.

Metra Electric District information.

Most Hyde Parkers take the #6 or #2 buses from the loop or Metra. As for the el, most of the people from Hyde Park take the Red Line, which is faster and safer than the Green line and only a little farther away.

Few folks walk through Washington Park after dark, I would not recommend it.

Since MSI is about seven or eight miles from the downtown, some method of commuting by downtown tourists (other than walking) should be used. A taxi is too expensive, but renting bikes is a viable option for a scenic ride down the lake. Take the #6 or #10 bus for the best views of the city and a close dropoff at the museum.

Hello,
We're coming from Hotel in Ohare Airport? CTA says take blue line and get off at S Hyde Park and 56th St and walk 4min to Science Industry Museum, is this safe neighborhood? Also how about from Science Industry Museum to Wrigley field? What's the safest CTA route to go to Wrigley field? Thank you.

O'Hare Airport is on the Blue Line.
The Museum of Science and Industry is on Metra Electric.
Wrigley Field is on the Red Line.

To get between the Red and Blue Lines, the Washington stop on the Blue Line is connected to the Lake stop on the Red Line. From either of these stops, Metra Electric can be reached via Millennium Station a few blocks east.

There are also bus options which other posters may be able to elaborate on.

Bus numbers 6 and 10 go to and from the Loop/downtown to the Museum, plus you get a nice view of the lake each way. If you're coming from O'Haire to the Museum - and won't you have luggage you'd want to put away first? - you'll take the Blue Line to the Jackson subway stop downtown, get off, walk a block east (toward the lake) to State, then take the 6 or 10 to S Hyde Park/56th or the museum, respectively. Or Uber instead of taking a bus; it's probably only $10-$15 with Uber Pool.

As for the safest way of getting to Wrigley from the museum, take the 6 back to the Loop/downtown, then walk west two blocks to State street where the red line has number of subway stops i.e. Jackson, Monroe, Lake, which go directly to Wrigley Field in 7 or 8 stops. The bus + train trip will take an hour at minimum and is as safe as it gets for Chicago, in that there may be some "characters" but by and large you should be fine.
