Wondering if anyone here grows herbs in their kitchen over the winter and has had any success. Is there enough light or do you put the light on them yourself, and what types of herbs are you growing? We have a big sliding glass door window in our kitchen but it faces east so there's not all-day natural light.

I've never tried it, but we grow a lot of herbs outside spring-fall.

You'll need a grow light, and you need to start using it around Thanksgiving. We have a back room that gets decent direct afternoon light, but without a grow light I've lost most of my herb plants starting around New Years. All are gone by mid to late January. I've used a grow light for the last two years and have had better luck, but at this point my oregano and rosemary are gone, but my sage and thyme are still OK (but not looking good).

For the official NSA viewing record, I do not grow any kinds of herbs, greens, plants, or the like indoors or outdoors or know what such a function entails.

I tried to grow Cilantro before. Didn't work.

I notice when I'm on the West Coast or in places like Toronto there are a LOT more shops that specialize in hydroponics equipment.

We used an aerogarden and it worked really well. If you have the space and the budget for one, they certainly work.

Ours would get out of control fast with certain herbs; we had more basil than we could eat and ended up making pesto pretty often.
