Funny

There are a lot of empty store fronts in the area.. as of now I know a bunch of cafes are moving in, but there hasn't been any news on what will be moving in under the new apartment buildings, the new condo building, and new retail store fronts that are being developed currently. Also no news on the owners of Leopold's location

Any other thoughts on the area? I'd expect the streets between Grand and Chicago east of Ashland to be a bit nicer given that is there the main stretch of nightlife is on Grand and Chicago. Is there still gang activity in that area?

I suppose the highway is a stumbling block for development and maybe the area will never fully develop.

Yes, it has potential to boom, if you have a time machine you can set to 2005 or so.

No doubt the people already living there are unaware their neighborhood never developed.

Yes. The few gangbangers left still hold it down pretty hard.

Where abouts and what is typical there?

No doubt the area is a lot better than it was 5-7 years ago, but I am still surprised by the lack of retail and restaurants in the area given the location to the metro and surrounding areas and the core foundation of VERY good restaurants in the area already.

Residents first, stability second, then retail?

Generally, if you're east of Ashland it's pretty good south of Erie Street. The blocks around Eckhart Park are a bit rough, probably because of the subsidized housing around it. That is probably the roughest spot around that area.

Going west of Ashland; it's better to be north of Chicago but there is nothing really bad over there.
