I will be moving to the Washington, DC area in the upcoming months and am trying to find a cost-effective way to get my few pieces of small furniture and a couple heavy boxes there. I've ruled out renting and driving a truck myself because for the amount of things that need to be moved, the charges by the truck rental company just isn't worth it.

Does anyone know of a website that lists people in similar situations with small moves that would like to make some money taking on someone else's small load? A doubling up or move-share program?

If anyone here has plans to move to the East Coast before December, I wouldn't mind coordinating a pick up of my things around MD/VA or possibly as far as New Jersey depending on your destination. It's just the 650 other miles between Chicago and MD I'd like to split the costs on.

Any ideas would be helpful. Right now I'm looking at having to sell my large things and ship the rest via USPS, which will also get costly.

Thanks! (My apologies if this is better suited for the General Moving Issues forum.)

Check out the rideshare sub-forum on the Chicago craigslist. A quick search just now brought up an ad from someone making an offer to transport items to D.C. in early October. Good luck!
