South Loop is a nice neighborhood. You got Orange, Green and Red lines, Metra and a number of bus lines at Roosevelt: Transit is covered. Whole Foods, Target and Jewel: Grocery covered. It's an almost perfect spot now.

With your $2000 budget and only wanting a studio, I would say you can live anywhere you want to. You can probably find a place in the new east side, a lot of them are new and have floor to ceiling windows, and you can probably find something facing the loop with a nice view. Especially if you don't party, it's pretty quiet in the new east side. I used to hangout there on weekends when I had my internship.

I've looked into some of the buildings in river north, like the ENV, but the view isn't very good. You can also look at the Trump tower, I'm not sure how much it cost, but I think its 2-3k for a studio, so it might be too much, but it is a 5 star hotel, everything about it is luxury. And if you travel all week, I'm sure your company pays for all your expenses, so you can actually afford a lot more than people that don't travel. If you want luxury, there is only one thing in the way, MONEY
which ibank are you working at?

PE as in professional engineering? You are 23 years old and have been in the industry for three years already? Are you a prodigy?

Were you counting internships in this? I mean in that case, I had two years experience in industry by the time I graduated college at 22 too.

Hey, is it true that it's cheaper to live in Chicago, because you guys are an hour behind?

Jokes aside, I'm seriously thinking about moving there. I love the architecture, and apparently people (from my friend who's been there for the last 4 years).

I only had two internships, one wasn't exactly in the same industry, so if I include the other one, I have just over 3 years...

Cheaper is a relevant…. it's only true when you are comparing certain parts of Chicago to certain parts of NYC, LA, MIA, etc…
