I got my undergrad at DePaul and made this same trip 2-3 times a week after my night classes in the loop, usually at 10 o'clock at night. It's perfectly safe, as long as you use basic judgement of your surroundings (like you would in any other big city). There's still plenty of people and students around that area at that time of night, and the loop is one of the safest parts of the city. The CTA is also generally very safe. I've taken the El at ALL times of the day and night and have never once felt unsafe in the slightest. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

...and don't bother bringing your car. One of the best perks of being a DePaul student is that the university will issue you a U-Pass, which is a card that gives you free, unlimited access to the CTA (bus and El).

The only thing I might suggest is that the Harrison stop, of all of the ones around there, is one of the less well maintained and a bit quieter. Try it, but you might want to try the one just north (Jackson) or south (Roosevelt), which tend to be busier.
Telling her to get off at a different stop is a horrible ideal. The Harrison stop is literally right in front of the UCC. You are more likely to be a victim if you got off at one of the other stops and walked then if you just got off at Harrison and walked right into the UCC.
