After another poster brought up some great looking lofts at 2060 Washington, I decided to dig into the area a bit more. Here's a pretty comprehensive site on crime by neighborhood. I brought up East Garfield Park right away and saw that there were a few shootings since Jan 1 among some other "normal" crimes you'd hear about in Chicago. After seeing this, I was about to discontinue my search in that area. Before I did, I pulled up my old neighborhood. Edgewater - Catalpa/Broadway. There were indeed a few shootings there as well among the "normal" crimes you'd hear about for Chicago. I have to tell you, I felt 100% safe all the time in that area. Sure there was the rif raff that hung in the alleys, but if you don't want to see that simply stay out of the alleys. I guess my point here is there is crime everywhere in this city. Sure, some areas are better than others, but I think I'll still consider East Garfield Park as a place to call home - the 2060 Washington lofts are basically on the far outskirts of what is referred to as EGP.

No need to go long winded on EGP b/c there are plenty of posts out there on this area, but I did want to share this link.
