I am dropping off my father to O'hare (ORD) for a 7 PM flight tomorrow (Monday). Will traffic from Oak Park to O'Hare (290W/294N) have bad traffic around 4 PM? What are alternative routes (google maps shows 64W)? Maybe we could leave Oak Park at 3 PM?

We are driving from South Bend, Indiana to ORD. I'm trying to break up the drive, do a little sightseeing of Chicago and have him at the airport on time without horrendous traffic. I original planned on visiting the Loop but decided later (from the helpful advice of other city data users) it wouldn't be the best option (carrying luggage through the city).

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Respectfully, Jennifer

I'd suggest you download the Waze app. I've found it very useful for navigating rush hour. It's constantly updating based on traffic.

I used to live in OP and work at O'Hare.

The best way is to take North Ave (64) to 1st Ave. Make a right, and about 1/2 mile down there will be a fork in the road. Go left at the fork (River Rd). Take River all the way north to the 190W. Much faster than the highway at that hour.

Agree that this is the fastest route currently while Mannheim is under reconstruction. Once that is done, the fastest route is to take River Rd to Lawrence Ave, then westbound on Lawrence to Mannheim, northbound on Mannheim, then right hand exit to westbound I-190. (currently the Mannheim/I-190 exchange is closed).

What's the reason for going via Oak Park? There is nothing to sightsee there.

Gonna cruise by Oakparkdude's house?

Ha, ha. Well, if you can't find the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio, Unity Temple, or any of his historic homes, you're welcome to swing by my house. We'll leave the light on for you.

Oakparkdude's house is quickly becoming one of Oak Park's most beloved tourist attractions.
