Hi all,

I have heard that Midway is actually not in Chicago proper, but in a suburb. Can anyone confirm and/or tell me what town it is actually in? Thanks!

j33 is correct. Midway is in Chicago on Cicero and 47th(???). It is pretty close to Bedford Park (a suburb) but still within city limits. O'Hare is actually farther from the city than Midway. I think it's really in Rosemont but somehow is connected to the city.

I know this isn't about Ohare, but if you look at a map, you can see that a Chicago boundary is specifically drawn to and around the airport...otherwise it wouldn't be in Chicago proper.

Yes Mel2882,MDZ,and J33 are all right.

One thing (although unrelated) that most people dont know, is part of Chicago is in Dupage county. Even before the city bought half of Bensenville, part of O'Hare and some of the land the city owns around it are in DuPage county.

Midway is at 55th and Cicero. Which means that there is no expressway closer than two miles or so and that if a plane misses the runway it lands in someone's rec room. It also means Midway has great transportation to it and, if you wish, you can sit in the White Castle at 63rd and Cicero and watch planes land all day.

Both O'Hare and Midway are within city limits although they had to annex a narrow strip of land to connect the city to O'Hare. However, Norridge is a muniicipality totally surrounded by the city of Chicago but is a different city. Just take that last tidbit on faith.

The downside of having two airports in Chicago:

A couple of years back, when I lived in Hyde Park, I accidentally went to O'hare instead of Midway to catch a flight with United Airlines. I had booked the flight months before, forgot the details, and assumed that my plane was at O'hare since the vast majority of United flights fly from O'hare. When I got to airport, I couldn't see my flight on the schedule, and got very irate with a United employee for "losing" my flight.

After I took a careful look at my ticket, I felt really, really stupid. By then, of course, it was too late to get to Midway. Luckily, I was able to rebook on an O'hare flight and arrived at my destination only a little bit later and a little bit poorer than my original itinerary.

I didn't know United had any flights out of Midway.

Obviously, I didn't realize they did either. I just checked the Midway website and apparently United doesn't fly from Midway anymore. This event occurred over ten years ago.
