looked at an apartment on 510 W. Briar, located between N. Broadway & N. Sheridan. Any recent comments on area, building, safety of area, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

My favorite neighborhood!! right there on Broadway from Belmont to Wellington is everything you need to live! Also not far from the buses that run on Sheridan, some are express and you always get a seat going downtown.

As for safety, its safe. Not so much crime happens as if you travel toward the Belmont L. And Briar is pretty with the trees, flowers, etc.

Thank you for the feedback. Are you saying it is safe to walk or bike to the redline at Belmont or not & rather take the bus at Sheridan? Has anyone lived in this particular building? Reviews are few & the same exact ones virtually only from 2010-2012. Thanks again for your feedback.

The whole area is completely safe, including the Belmont El. There have been some instances of mugging, gangs of kids attacking people there, etc, over the last few years, but these are generally very late at night.

The el platform, station and surrounding area is as crowded as a shopping mall at all except the wee hours.

It's very safe by city standards.

My personal opinion is that there just tend to be more inebriated yahoos stumbling home around there at 4 in the morning than at other places in the city.

It's not really wise to be wandering around like a drunken jack#ss by yourself at 3, 4 am anywhere in Chicago and probably not in most big cities.

According to the crime stats, the Belmont L is not too safe as it used to be. I prefer to take the express buses down Sheridan. Its probably relatively ok during daylight. As for buses, on Sheridan Rd - #145 picks you up at Belmont and Lake Shore Drive and goes right onto Lake Shore drive, but its usually packed; you can take the #143 and the #134 and it goes down Sheridan to Fullerton and gets Express onto lake Shore Drive, and the #151 but it takes 15 minutes longer to get to downtown, but is a pretty scenic route. Plus the buses are a lot cleaner and saner than the Red Line.

Comin' in late, but is that near the Blue Man Group theater? To me, a tourist, it looked like a great area.
