Does anyone know of any affordable gyms somewhere around the chicago / state redline stop? I only need a squat rack and barbells. No trainers, no yoga, no spa, none of that stuff. Just some iron and room to lift it in.

It seems all the gyms around here are the fancy expensive kind. Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable gym with a basic plan that just lets you use the equipment?

you can use the chicago park district. a lot of them have basic exercise rooms with equipment, treadmills and some free weights, and last I remember, it cost like $45 for like 3 months or so.

Going to be hard to find any.

Planet fitness in streeterville may be your best option.

River North CrossFit on Ontario and Franklin might be reasonable if you don't mind walking, which I don't doubt since you're looking for a gym.

FFC, but depends on your idea of affordable. I think it's cheaper than Equinox et al.

I think there may be. Planet Fitness somewhere downtown...that is usually cheapest by a mile.

When I lived in the Bronx I paid $10 per month for a basic gym membership to crunch fitness which only gave me access to the equipment and no classes. That's pretty damn affordable.

Yea, $10 isn't happening around there.

Your best bet would be to sign up for LA fitness, as there is one not too far away from the that red line stop. You can usually negotiate out of their $100 "initiation fee" and then it's only around $30/month, which is reasonable IMO.

Also, it's way out of the way in Edgewater, but B&W gym is probably the most hardcore lifting/bodybuilding/powerlifting gym in the city. It has every rare piece of gym equipment you can imagine plus tons of squat racks and deadlift platforms, but it is absolutely no frills and it gets dank, especially in the summer. It's also like $10-$15/month, maybe even cheaper if you're a student.

I think Planet fitness is doing a $10 monthly special if you sign a 12 year contract as well as a no contract deal for $20 a month. I plan on getting a membership their soon. Cheapest deal I could find.

LOL...12 years?! Typo no?

Yes PF is indeed 10-20 a month even in Streeterville.
