Okay, so I don't know what it is about Chicago, but it seems I'm not meant to go there. Ha.

Ok, here's the issue. My wallet was stolen which only had my ID in there and no money, luckily. Unfortunately, I am going to Chicago in exactly two weeks. I need an ID to book my hostel and my Amtrak train.

For the Chicago residents, I was wondering if you'd had any experience with using a tribal ID with hotels, Amtrak, bars or restaurants (for alcohol). Otherwise I'll have to try to get a new ID and I'll have to use a temporary ID as I wouldn't get a hardcopy for a month.

Has anyone used a paper ID for a hotel, Amtrak or bars before? I've heard of them being declined.

I've read stories online about people's tribal identification cards being declined from voting and getting into an over 21 club.

A tribal identification card is distributed through the tribal government and should be accepted widely, but it seems like there's (for some reason) still issues with accepting them.

Does your tribal card have a picture ID? If it has a photo, I don't see the problem with it as it's an accepted form of ID to cross the US border. I think the main problem you'll run into is that most people won't know what a tribal card is.

It will have a picture.

I know, that's what I'm worried about. Luckily, the hostel will accept them, but I imagine no one serving alcohol would serve me because hardly anyone knows what a tribal card is.

If you can get yourself to the DMV before your trip to get a state ID, that would be ideal, but I know it might not be possible. Other than that, I don't know what other ways to get around needing a more mainstream ID to buy alcohol. I hope your tribal card works. It's sucks that they're not as well known. Sorry.

Thanks. I suppose I can do without the alcohol on this trip. It's not essential. I discovered both Amtrak and the hostel have no issues with the ID, so that's really good.
